In my experience as a journalist, I've learned that it's important to be open to new opportunities.

Working first at a small weekly paper, The Mail-Journal, in Milford, Indiana, after my sophomore year was a good starting point for me because it showed me what it's like to work with other reporters to create a finished product.

My class work helped me to understand the mechanics of working as a journalist. I learned how to write breaking news, features, long-form and many other types of stories. This basis helped me in seeking another internship opportunity later in my college career.

Transitioning to the daily news cycle in my senior year was a unique challenge at The Courier-Times in New Castle, Indiana. I now know how to handle a greater workload, and I learned a lot from the experience.

In May, I graduate from Ball State University with a bachelor's degree in journalism with a minor in professional writing. As of now, I am seeking employment and I'm open to both traditional and non-traditional media outlets.
